Changing Filters About Our Eyes: Truths Versus Myths
Truths About Our Eyes
Truth: Vision problems offer us an opportunity to rebalance the energetic and systemic health of the whole body.
Truth: Chinese medicine tells us that many major meridians connect to the eyes. Stagnation in the liver, kidney, and spleen meridians can create pain, swelling, and inflammation in the eyes with resulting impaired vision. Acupuncture can reduce the stagnation, decreasing symptoms and re-balancing the eyes.
Truth: We have been conditioned to disconnect from sensing our eyes. As I have helped people discover the sensations in their eyes, they report that their sight is clearer, brighter, and more vibrant.
Truth: Sunlight provides important nourishment for the eyes and is necessary for our systemic and spiritual health. When ultraviolet light enters our eyes, it helps to stimulate vitamin D production and nourish the immune system.
Truth: Vision can be improved at ANY age.
Truth: Childrens’ eye problems don’t have a statue of limitations for improvement. Therapies can be organic and holistic and are effective at any time during one’s development. We don’t have to rush into surgery, there are complementary alternatives that work!
Neuroscientists have proved that we can improve the function of the brain at any age by developing new neural connections. The brain, the eyes — every part of the body with nerve connections — is capable of lifelong neural flexibility, or neuroplasticity.
Truth: Our vision is not static. It is a dynamic system and should be treated as such. The more versatility we have in our vision, the more versatility we have in our life.
Myths about our eyes dominate the thinking of the eye-care profession. Here are a few them:
Myth: The eye is a simple, mechanical/biological organ, separate from the rest of the body. It will inevitably deteriorate with age.
Myth: Our genes control our eye health.
Myth: There is no correlation between the eyes and the rest of the body.
