Vision Therapy
Vision Therapy is an individualized program of activities designed to improve visual motor skills. Performed by Behavioral/ Developmental Optometrists, this type of health care is based on the concept that vision is the dominant sense and that it is a learned skill that begins to develop at the moment of birth. We take a very extensive developmental history and base our testing and treatment on the whole person. As a behavioral/developmental optometrist we can help the eye-brain-body system become more balanced. When our visual system improves it can have a systemic impact with the rest of the body.
Aside from vision therapy, we use many different tools to help enhance and remediate a patient’s visual motor system. We may prescribe performance enhancing lenses, syntonic light therapy, or motor development activities. The analysis of doctors in behavioral optometry goes far beyond the optical correction and checking of eye health. 20/20 acuity is only one aspect in the development of vision. It is vital to consider how the development of the child’s vision relates to the other neurological and sensory systems of the body.
